Staying at HI Washington DC Hostel
A 10-minute walk from the Metro Station, I didn’t find it hard to reach the hostel. I arrived at HI Washington DC Hostel around 11:00 AM. I approached the front desk and presented my passport to check in. The room wasn’t ready yet so the staff offered their locker area for my luggage. I didn’t have any plans to tour around immediately so I told the staff that I can just had my luggage with me. I stayed at the common area and waited until our room became available.
Rooms
HI Washington DC Hostel has a lot of different room types with private and dorm rooms that are either for male, female, or mixed. We stayed in a Double Room on our first two nights. Then, we had a Double Room En Suite on our last night.
Both rooms are private and can fit max of two persons. The room can either have a full bed or two single beds. It is also equipped with heating and air-conditioning. Rooms were also clean, comfortable and spacious. It also has a window with a nice view of the street. Towels and blankets were also provided. Both rooms also have a work desk. The difference for the en suite and basic room is the private toilet and bath. The Double Room En Suite also has a sink, microwave, small fridge and some utensils.

Eastern Market Tour with HI Washington DC Hostel
Elal and I was able to experience one of the tours that HI Washington DC Hostel had during our stay. Started around 10:00 am, we met our guide and fellow joiners in the lobby. But before setting off, our guide gave us an overview of Washington DC and what to expect in our destination. She also gave us time to introduce ourselves and each of the participants – and what made us visit Washington DC. My answer was I wanted to see the White House. But after the tour and getting around the capital city, I discovered a lot more.
Eastern Market in Capitol Hill
It was the Eastern Market Tour that Elal and I joined. We went to a public market in the neighborhood of Capitol Hill. From the hostel, our group took the train to reach the Eastern Market. Interesting because the market is housed in a historic brick building. Inside there was a variety of stalls and shops selling produce, handmade crafts and prepared foods. Our group spent half an hour inside the market. Some had their lunch while others looked around to buy something interesting.
Capitol Building
After visiting the Eastern Market, our guide brought us to the Capitol Building. It is the home of the United States Congress and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. The Capitol Building is an architecturally impressive structure making it as one of the important buildings to visit when in Washington DC.
Visiting the Capitol Building was the end of our tour. But nearby the Capitol Building, there are still a lot see. Our guide suggested some places for us to visit like the Library of Congress, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
Joining the Eastern Market Tour organized by HI Washington DC Hostel gave us a nice start to discover the city. A fun and exciting place for food, art and clothing, visiting the Eastern Market is one of the cool local things to do when in Washington DC. Visiting this historic market also let us have a glimpse of the lifestyle and culture of the people.
HI Washington DC Hostel is a great accommodation to choose while in Washington DC. It has a great location, clean and cozy rooms and wonderful facilities giving guests the best hostel experience. The tour that we attended was also enjoyable that let us able to meet new people. It also gave us the opportunity to learn a bit about the history of the city, culture and lifestyle. More than just a place to stay and relax for me, I find this hostel truly a great home base for exploring Washington DC.
