Big Hostel, Staying at Sydney’s Number One Hostel
On my second visit to Sydney, I stayed at Big Hostel and made it my base for two days. I was glad that I learned this hostel when I was searching for affordable and clean room and close to train station. It has rooms that fit the budget, a brilliant location, based on reviews – shower and common areas are always clean, I couldn’t agree more why this hostel is Sydney’s number one hostel.
A five-minute walk from Central Station, I didn’t find it hard to reach Big Hostel even though I was carrying a big luggage and a backpack. Upon arrival, I approached the reception and told my reservation. I then presented my passport. When it was confirmed, the staff asked for a minimum security deposit, which is refundable upon checkout. He then handed to me my room key. It was a smooth check in process, I must say.
Room
Big Hostel offers several types of accommodation. Dormitory rooms are made up of 4, 6, and 8-beds. Rate per bed starts from AU$35 per person per night. The hostel also has private rooms for travelers who are looking for a little privacy. The room types are single, double, twin, triple and family room. You may check rates and availability here.
My room was a Double Room En-Suite. The room has a double bed and has a private bathroom. It is also equipped with TV, fan, desk lamp and a shelving unit. Towels are also provided. The room looks simple and tidy. It wasn’t huge but I was already happy because it has enough space for my things. On my first night, I already felt comfy in this Double Room that I wished I didn’t need to transfer to another room anymore on my second day.
Since the Double Room and other private rooms were booked the next day, I needed to transfer. Dormitory rooms were only available that day. I was assigned to a 6-bed dormitory room type. Gladly, the room wasn’t fully occupied that time. The dorm room was spacious and has clean beds. Inside the dorm room, there are also huge lockers. Using these lockers are free, but you have to use your own keys.
Facilities
Big Hostel also provides a number of great facilities for guests to enjoy. The hostel has a comfortable lounge and dining area with large TV. There’s also a fully equipped shared kitchen where you can also enjoy the free breakfast daily with a selection of cereals, toast, jams, spreads and tea & coffee. Guests can also access the Wi-Fi for free at the common lounge.
Tour and ticket assistance is also available at the reception area. Staff is available at the reception 24-hours. The hostel also has a rooftop garden with barbecue facilities and sun terrace.
Big Hostel provided me a wonderful stay experience during my short visit in Sydney. The rooms were clean and the common areas were really nice. The hostel also has a convenient location making it an ideal base to explore the city. Sydney’s number one hostel, I would definitely recommend Big Hostel to anyone looking for a budget place to stay in Sydney.
