The Peak + Symphony of Lights

It was our last day to stroll around and visit some tourist attractions in Hong Kong. We had our flight back to Manila the next day, early in the morning so we had to enjoy the most out of our last day in Hong Kong. We were so dead tired from all the activities we had from the past few days of our trip so we wanted to have a more relaxed and easier trip this time. It was actually hard for me to get up from bed that day but my Aunt wanted to meet us up and have lunch somewhere in Mong Kok. She told me to meet her at McDonald’s in Jordan area.

From our guesthouse in Mirador Mansion, we rode a train from TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) Station going to Jordan. It didn’t take us long to get to Jordan Station since it was just one station away but it took us a long time to locate where exactly the McDonald’s she was talking about. There was a lot of McDonald’s and I forgot to ask what exit should we take. Anyway, I just called my Aunt and she instructed me the direction.

Finally, I saw my Aunt and Uncle. We then proceeded to our destination. I have no idea where is she going to treat us and I was surprised that we’ll be having a buffet lunch in BP International House. I’ll talk about this on separate posts.

It was a sumptuous lunch. We were very full. We actually planned to go to Mong Kok area to shop since we’re already in the area then go to The Peak afterwards but my Aunt told me that we should go to The Peak first before dark since there are chances that we might not see a great view of Hong Kong Skyscrapers because of the thick fog.

The Peak

It was already 2:00 PM, we bid good bye and thanked my Aunt and Uncle for the treat. We rode a train from Jordan Station going to Central Station. There are ways on how to get to Peak Tram Lower Terminal from the Central Station and being a budget traveler we opted to get to the Terminal by foot. We went out from Central Station J2 exit. We passed by a park and walked along the Garden Road. We just followed the signs directing to the terminal. In about 15 minutes, we were able to reach the Peak Tram Lower Terminal. You may also take a bus to get to the terminal. From Central Station, ride bus 15C located near Star Ferry Pier 7.

We bought our tickets as soon as we arrived the terminal. The Peak Tram round trip ticket costs HKD 40 (HKD 28 for single trip). You may also purchase Peak Tram Sky Pass that includes Peak Tram round trip ticket + entrance fee to Sky Terrace 428. This costs HKD 65. We’re on a budget so we only purchased Peak Tram round trip ticket.

The Peak Tram

Getting to The Peak by The Peak Tram was an unforgettable experience. I haven’t experienced a tram like this before so this really excites me. I’ve read that if you want to see the view of Hong Kong during the ride you must sit at the right side of the the Peak Tram. Unfortunately I got confused and we sat at the left side. But there’s nothing to worry since the view wasn’t impressive at all. Let’s see, maybe later if we’re on The Peak already.

We thought of checking out the Madame Tussaud’s Hong Kong but I just couldn’t afford the admission fee. It was just good that there are wax figures outside the attraction area.

Afterwards, we went up going to The Peak Galleria.

The Peak Gallery

It seems we didn’t need to go the Sky Pass anymore. The view from the Peak Galleria is already outstanding.

The view of Hong Kong skyscrapers is just really awesome.

It was really breathtaking up in The Peak, literally. It was so freaking cold! I just couldn’t endure the coldness anymore so I went inside the mall and just waited for my companions.

After a couple of minutes, we decided to move on to our next destination. We rode the Peak tram again. The Peak tram came back down to the Peak Tram Lower Terminal in reverse.

Victoria Harbour

When we arrived at the terminal, we rode a bus going to the Star Ferry Pier. We rode a ferry going to Tsim Sha Tsui for HKD 2.50. It was an excellent decision that we took the ferry because we were able to see the skyscrapers of Hong Kong while we’re crossing Victoria Harbour. We arrived at Tsim Sha Tsui ferry pier at around 7:00 PM. We still have an hour to spend before the Symphony of Lights so went to the Harbour City for some window shopping.

Harbour City

Around 10 minutes before 8:00 PM, we went out from the mall and walked towards sea side boulevard.

Clock Tower

We actually planned to go to Avenue of Stars and from there we’ll watch the symphony of lights. But by looking on our map it was still a long walk to get there (or we just so tired to walk further). So we just sat in one of the benches and from there we watched the Symphony of Lights. The show started at 8:00 PM.

The show somehow didn’t meet my expectation. I was looking and waiting for more spectacles but I haven’t felt any wow moment when I watched it. Although I was impressed on how those buildings navigate the lights timely and synchronized.

I planned to have our dinner at Tim Ho Wan in Mong Kok, Kowloon then go shopping afterwards but one of my companions wanted to go back to Harbour City to buy something. I was already worried if we’re still going to make it to dinner at Tim Ho Wan. I didn’t want to miss this restaurant since it was recommended by some bloggers. I thought my companion we’re just going to grab the item she wanted and will immediately pay it at the counter but no she still look for something that interests her. That made us stay bit longer in the mall. My itinerary screwed up. I was (really) pissed off and I just gave up our dinner to Tim Ho Wan. I was really sad but I guess another reason to go back in Hong Kong.

We skipped dinner and went straight to Mong Kok to shop and buy some items and stuff. From Harbour City, we walked towards Nathan Road going to TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) Station. We rode a train going to Mong Kok Station. And from there we started our shopping spree. It seemed our last day wasn’t the “more relaxed and not in a hurry trip” which I supposed to have.
