Red Carabao: A Backpacker’s Hostel in Manila

Spending a weekend together with other travellers in a backpacker’s hostel in Manila brought me back to the urge of travelling. Red Carabao, a backpacker’s hostel in Manila held a small gathering one weekend for few travellers and its guests. A gathering for us to socialise, to experience Manila and to learn how each of us can help the travel community.

Red Carabao which has opened its door for travellers looking for a budget accommodation in July, 2009, continually gives its guests a unique travel experience. It was founded to offer an alternative accommodation for backpackers who would like to see and experience real and fun culture of Manila.

It was nearing nighttime when we had arrived at the hostel. The hostel which is specifically located in Santa Cruz district of Manila, can be reached just minutes of walk from the Abad Santos LRT station. It is also situated nearby the famous Chinese Cemetery, which we had visited the next day afternoon.

There’s also a public market nearby where we had brought the hostel’s guests that night for a unique market experience. Shopping malls, bar area, other important establishments and tourist spots are also located nearby the hostel making it easy for the hostel’s guests to see and experience the city.

The hostel has several floors with air-conditioned rooms provided with various bunk beds.

Bathrooms are shared. They also have common area wherein you can lounge around, read books and watch TV. Wifi is also provided free. They also have small kitchen wherein you can cook your meals and dining table to eat your food. The hostel also has its rooftop wherein you can play ping pong or billiards.

The hostel also host and organise various events and amazingly distinctive travel experiences for its guests that even I, a resident of this country, haven’t experienced yet.

That night, we were gathered in the top floor of the hostel for an evening of fun, getting together and knowing each other. It had started with dinner and throwing a tricky game to learn more about each other’s stories and lies. We had then continued the night by going to a nearby bar – partying after midnight. Then ended the crazy night with a bowl of hot porridge, which we had eaten in the nearby market.

It was an enjoyable night for all of us seeing how crazy, spirited and diverse each one of us but yet sharing one passion in life, travelling. We were all gathered by one passion and that’s to see the world. And that’s what the hostel trying to let us and its backpackers guests to experience.

The weekend stay in Red Carabao Manila gave us a unique experience that enlightened us more about different experiences when travelling and about the diversity of culture of people coming from different sides of the world.

More than just a hostel, Red Carabao is a place wherein you can have a unique experience seeing the real Manila. A place to meet other travellers and connect with them under one passion, travelling.
