Where to Eat in Baler?

Food and travel always come together. It’s a must-try for everyone who travels to eat local cuisine and specialty in every place he/she goes to. So whenever I go to a place, I ensure that I have to eat any specialty and delicacy of the province or try the local restaurants from that place.

Sabang Beach, Baler

Few months ago me and my friend went to Baler. We wanted the trip to be more of discoveries rather than sticking to what is listed on the itinerary thus I didn’t search for any food recommendations. However some of my friends who went there posted some recommendations on where to eat. With that I got an idea on where to eat which ended me creating an itinerary for the trip. Reading those entries from my friends had me forgot my original purpose of this trip. Well, next time I’ll go I’ll promise not to make one just for a change.

Bay’s Inn

Our first day was spent surfing in Sabang Beach. We only noticed two restaurants along the beach, Bay’s Inn and the one from Bahia de Baler. Since the latter looks intimidating for us we dined in at Bay’s Inn for some snack after our surfing lesson. The restaurant is packed of diners. With that crowd, it looks like this restaurant really serves good food.

We looked for a table and took our orders. Surprisingly, the server told us that we still need to wait for an hour before they can serve our food. Since we’re not hungry yet and we’re not in a hurry we said it was okay. But then I realized, Bakit ganon katagal? From snack it became our dinner.

Anyways, here was our food served after an hour. Since it’s Holy Week me and my friend deprived ourselves from eating meat. So we had pasta and sandwich. Mine was the spicy pasta (or some sort).

Me and my friend was able to enjoy our food that made us dine in here again for a couple of times. Also, the great view from the Bay’s Inn was nice. Al fresco, by the bay it is.

On our second night, we went again to dine in. It still had the same situation. The restaurant was full of diners. Nevertheless, we were still able to secure seats for us. We immediately took our orders and waited patiently for our food. After an hour or so, our food arrived. Waaaah! We were all hungry. Feast!

Dinner at Bay's Inn

Our rice wasn’t enough so one of us ordered two or three extra cups of rice for us. Since she couldn’t wait for the server to approach us and take our extra orders, she impatiently approached the kitchen line station and ordered directly. Surprisingly, she was told to wait for 30 minutes for extra rice to be served. What? That was horrible, 30 minutes for an extra rice.

Looks like this restaurant is under staff making the customer suffer from the poor service. Without a doubt, they have good food but I hope this restaurant employs more staff so not to suffer the service to its customers.

Well, despite of that waiting time for our food we couldn’t agree less that this restaurant is one of a food finds here in Sabang Beach. At least you can experience waiting for your food in an hour. The situation doesn’t make any less different during morning. We were asked to wait for our ordered pancakes and hotdogs too before it can be served. There were only few diners that time.

Forget about how the pancake tasted and seize the moment with this view. A beautiful morning in Baler. I wish we could have more time on this laid back town.

The Rolling Stores

Located near the town plaza and nearby Museo de Baler is where the Rolling Stores is. It is said that the Rolling Stores were group of food carts before that go around the town of Baler and go beside the town plaza wherein customers can buy cheap food. Now the area became permanent and lined up with small eateries.

The food was cheap and undeniably good too. It is no doubt why people flock to this place to eat.

With all the places that we’ve eaten in Baler, I have to admit that this eatery was the one I enjoyed the most. So if you like home cooked Filipino meals, then you have to go to Rolling Stores.

Gerry Shan’s Place

If there’s one eatery that I wanted to try to in Baler then it was Gerry Shan’s Place. It offers an all-day buffet that only costs PHP 150.00. The restaurant is located at the central town of Baler. Just ask your tricycle driver to take you to Gerry Shan’s Place and he definitely knows where it is.

Affordable buffet restaurant, expect that this place that could be full of diners. And so it is. But I was taken aback with the number of people. The place looks chaotic. As I entered the place, I was puzzled who to ask for a table or who to talk to about the buffet. I couldn’t get near with the lady whose in the kitchen line station as the area were obstructed with asking guests as well. So me and my friend just looked for our table and had our seat. Marx, what do you expect on this kind of eatery, a posh restaurant service? Lol!

After awhile, I called the server and asked him how to avail the eat all you can promo. He asked us to pay for the PHP 150.00 buffet price each first. After paying, we started grabbing food from the buffet table.

Since I was still kind of full from what I had from my breakfast in Bay’s Inn, I only grabbed small amount of each dishes just to try each of it.

With PHP 150.00, I must say this one was the most reasonable all you can eat restaurant I’ve ever been to. Also, the promo comes with all you can drink iced tea.

The buffet comes with different dishes, may it be pork, chicken, fish or vegetables. I noticed that spaghetti was also being served in the buffet table. The buffet also comes with bits of green mango fruits for side dish. The food taste wasn’t that great but it was good. Very affordable and reasonable for the price of PHP 150.00.
