An Early Summer Getaway in Boracay

Technically, March is the start of summer in the Philippines. Summer is the season where most of the people go on a vacation, excursion and outing, and time to spend with friends, family and loved ones wherever their destination is. During this season, the most popular destination for a getaway is beach. And I assume when we speak of beach, the most visited island in the country for this kind of getaway is Boracay.

Before the summer has officially started in the country, me and some of my friends went to Boracay for a quick getaway. We don’t need to have the season to officially start to enjoy the pristine beach of Boracay as the island is a perfect venue to play under the sun. A beach destination for an endless summertime. Of course, my feet couldn’t wait any longer to step back to this place after my last visit which just happened three months ago. The island seem to be overrated already for some but we still have our own preferences for a beach destination and Boracay still one of the best for me, making on the list effortlessly.

Although I’ve been to Boracay for quite sometime already, this was the first time that I’ve been with group of friends. True enough, to truly enjoy the island you must be with crazy companions. I mean friends who are always game as you are, may it be with activities, adventures, food and so on.

And if you are an adventurous person, one of the things that shouldn’t be missed when on this island is the variety of activities and adventures. Since I’ve done some of those already during my past travels here, I opted not to do them again and instead try some of the activities that I have never tried before.

Well since most of my companions are first timers here, I let them decide which activities they want; and one of them is Helmet Diving.  Of course, this is one of the recommended activities to try when visiting the island for the first time. On our first day, two of my companions went on a Helmet Diving as the rest of us waited for them at the shore; relaxing and watching people passed by.

The activity lasted for about 30 minutes, PHP 350.00 per person as per our guide’s offer to us.

I’ve been to a number of heart pounding and exciting activities in my travels in the past but it was during my last visit in Boracay that I experienced such thing again. And what activity is that? It’s the FlyFish. I never thought it’ll be that extreme. It was an intense and fun activity at the same time. The activity costs PHP 450.00 per person. Each inflatable could only fit up to 6 persons.

For about 20 minutes, FlyFish will take you to one of a hell ride. Imagine the speed of the boat pulling the inflatable with you. Of course, the supreme about that is it’ll flip you as the inflatable goes up side ward, enough for the riders to fall over if by any chance you don’t be able to hold tightly in the grip.

Two of my companions fell over.

One of the best things to capture in the island is its sunset. Again, no doubt this place has one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen it a lot of times already during my past travels here but I never got the chance to see if from a Paraw as it sails the sea of Boracay.

Paraw Sailing is an activity where a sailboat (or a traditional Philippine double outrigger boat) sail around the island. The activity lasts for about 30 minutes. It is recommended to have this activity during sunset to enjoy the magnificent sundown. The ride costs PHP 200.00 per person. Each boat could fit up to 10 persons.

One can also enjoy the sunset in Boracay away from the crowd by going to Puka Beach

This side of Boracay can be reached by either renting a boat from the White Beach or riding a tricycle. In our case, since our resort offers a free shuttle service to Puka Beach, we opted to ride on their shuttle to get to this area. Too bad, the waves are crazy that day so we weren’t able to swim and try the water on this part of the island.

With nothing else to do, we just had a leisure walk at the beach and took random snapshots.

And look what we have witnessed happening at the beach during our visit, a ceremonial for a foreign couple.

Boracay is truly a place that you will never run out of things to do. I mean, there’s always something new to experience when you visit this place.

Sometimes it’s not the destination that makes the place outstanding and memorable, it’s the people who you’re with. Whom you share the laughter, excitement, happenings and stories. It may be too short for a Boracay getaway as we only spent it during the weekends but surely, I could say this visit of mine in Boracay with my friends is one of the best getaways I had. This early summer trip is indeed a sign for a great summer ahead of us.
